Second Rishing Open Ultramarathon on January 11



TANAHUN: The second Rishing Open Ultramarathon is taking place on January 11 to be organized by the Rishing Rural Municipality in Tanahun district.

The competition aims to promote tourism through sports, it has been said. The slogan for the race is ‘Agriculture, culture, tourism and infrastructure, a base for the prosperity of Rishing’.

In the open category, the winner, first runner-up, second runner-up, and third runner-up will get Rs 65,000, Rs 40,000, Rs 25,000, and Rs 10,000 respectively along with medals, trophies, and certificates, said chair of the rural municipality Rajendra Krishna Shrestha.

Likewise, in the local marathon category, the winner, first runner-up, second runner-up, and third runner-up will win Rs 15,000, Rs 10,000, Rs 6,000, and Rs 2,000 respectively along with medals, trophies, and certificates.

In a women’s short marathon, the winner, first runner-up, second runner-up, and third runner-up will receive Rs 10,000, Rs 8,000, Rs 5,000, and Rs 2,000 respectively.

Participants in the marathon have to fill out a form by January 9 (10:00 am), said vice-chair of the rural municipality Ginu Maya Thapa.

Participation fees are Rs 1,000 each (open category) and Rs 100 (local category). However, no fee is charged under the women’s category.

So far, 24 runners from across the country have registered for the race (Open category), said the sports coordinator Dan Bahadur Shrestha. In the first ultramarathon, more than 70 runners took part.
