Vice President Pun hopes of impartial, free elections



KATHMANDU: Vice President Nanda Bahadur Pun has expressed his hope that the elections to the Member of the House of Representatives and Province Assembly (PA) would be concluded in an impartial, free and peaceful atmosphere.

As he said, the Election Commission has challenges to conduct the voting for the twin elections in a less disputed and more impartial and free manner.

During his meeting with a delegation from the EC led by Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Dinesh Kumar Thapaliya at the Office of the Vice President today, he stressed that the EC should build an environment ensuring a maximum voter turnout on coming November 20.

The Vice President also expressed his happiness over the preparations undertaken by the EC for the elections.

The EC visited the Office of Vice President to brief him about the election preparations.

He also congratulated the EC for the successful completion of the local-level elections last May and said he was happy to see the level of preparations that EC was making in view of the HoR and PA elections.

“I hope the elections will conclude in an impartial and free atmosphere.”

On the occasion, CEC Thapaliya pledged to meet the Vice President’s hope for credible elections, adding that the election preparations had been expedited as the date for the voting for both elections had been fast approaching.

He apprised the Vice President that the printing of ballot papers had been completed and the stuffs had been already transported to districts outside the Kathmandu Valley.

“The EC is committed to making the elections a success with the announcements of results as early as possible.”
