Entrepreneurs demonstrate against increase in banks’interest rate
Industrialists and entrepreneurs have demonstrated to protest the increase in interest rate by banks in Kathmandu on Friday.
They held a symbolic protest demonstration putting forth various demands including provision for a fixed interest rate, lowering the premium increased due to base rate, and decreasing the service-charge taking by banks and financial institutions.
Saying investment has increased due to different reasons including rise in interest rate, they demonstrated at Maitighar Mandala to draw attention of bodies concerned, said Vice-President of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Dinesh Shrestha.
Vice President Pun hopes of impartial, free elections
Vice President Nanda Bahadur Pun has expressed his hope that the elections to the Member of the House of Representatives and Province Assembly (PA) would be concluded in an impartial, free and peaceful atmosphere.
As he said, the Election Commission has challenges to conduct the voting for the twin elections in a less disputed and more impartial and free manner.
During his meeting with a delegation from the EC led by Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Dinesh Kumar Thapaliya at the Office of the Vice President today, he stressed that the EC should build an environment ensuring a maximum voter turnout on coming November 20.
UML is leading a coalition of royalist forces: Prachanda
Maoist Center Chairman, Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, has claimed that the November 20 election will see two factions – one democratic and the other royalist — in the fray.
“While the progressive one is led by Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba, the other one is led by CPN-UML Chairman KP Oli,” he said while addressing a meeting at Deurali of Gorkha on Friday.
UML Chair Oli vows to bring back “encroached land”
CPN-UML Chairperson KP Oli assured that his party, if elected in the upcoming parliamentary election, would bring back the “encroached” Nepal’s territories.
Speaking at a program in Darchula on Friday, Oli, also former Prime Minister, assured, “We will bring back land including Lipulek and Limpiyadhura. CPN (UML) is committed to defending nationality. We will not spare even an inch of our land.”
Total lunar eclipse taking place on November 8
A total lunar eclipse is taking place on coming November 8, Tuesday, the full moon day in the month of Kartik.
According to the Nepal Calendar Determination Committee, the eclipse will occur since moonrise at 5:11 pm.
It will be visible following the sunset at 5:11 pm.
According to Committee executive director Surya Prasad Dhungel, the eclipse will end at 6: 34 pm.
Nepal sees 25 new coronavirus cases in past 24 hours
Nepal recorded a total of 25 new cases of coronavirus in the past 24 hours as of Friday.
Of the confirmed cases, 22 cases were detected through the RT-PCR method and three through Antigen method.
According to the Ministry of Health and Population, a total of 1,845 swab samples were tested in the past 24 hours.
EC will conduct credible elections: CEC Thapaliya
Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Dinesh Kumar Thapaliya has vowed to conduct credible elections to the House of Representatives and Provincial Assembly on November 20.
Thapaliya said that the election preparations had been expedited as the date for the voting for both elections had been fast approaching.
Cricketer Sandeep Lamichhane sent to judicial custody
The Kathmandu District Court sent cricketer Sandeep Lamichhane to judicial custody on Friday.
He has been alleged of raping a minor.
The bench of justice Madhav Prasad Ghimire sent Lamichhane to judicial custody until the case filed against him is decided after the completion of the bail hearing at the Kathmandu District Court, which began on Wednesday.
First round tripartite meeting discusses ex-Gurkha issues in London
The tripartite held in London to explore solution to the protracted issues of ex-Gurkhas.
The London-based Nepali Embassy said the first meeting was held on Thursday at the Ministry of Defense of the United Kingdom in an attempt to address the issues of ex-Gurkhas.
Minister of State for Defense Dr Andrew Morrison, Nepal’s Ambassador to the UK Gyan Chandra Acharya and Major Judda Bahadur Gurung from ex-Gurkhas, among others were present in the meeting.
On behalf of the Nepal government, Ambassador Acharya had put his view on the issues such as treating ex-Gurkhas at par with British Army on pension arrangement, supplementary pension, lump sum payment to the families of the deceased and those mutilated in wars and welfare works.
Haribodhani Ekadashi today, devotees crowd up Narayan temples
Devotees are paying obeisance to Lord Vishnu on this day by observing fast and taking holy dips at rivers and ponds across the country since early this morning.
Hindu people believe that one, who fasts on this day and worships Vishnu, gets blessings.
Haribodhini Ekadashi is considered an important festival as on this day, Vishnu awakens from his monsoon month’s slumber.
