Govt decides to hold federal, provincial elections on Nov 20
The government has decided to hold the federal and provincial elections in a single phase on November 20.
A Council of Ministers meeting held on Thursday decided to this effect.
Earlier on Wednesday, the top leaders of the ruling coalition had agreed to hold federal and provincial elections on the date.
Last week, Chief Election Commission Dinesh Thapaliya had also urged not to be surprised if the cabinet decided to hold the federal election on November 20.
EC to start registration of political parties from Sunday
The Election Commission is set to start the process of registration of political parties from Sunday for the federal and state assembly elections to be held on November 20.
Chief Election Commissioner Dinesh Kumar Thapalia said the party registration process for the elections would start from Sunday.
Earlier, the cabinet decided to hold the elections on November 20 as per the recommendation of the Election Commission.
UML welcomes govt decision to hold elections on Nov 20
The CPN-UML has welcomed the government’s decision to hold the elections to House of Representatives and Provincial Assemblies on November 20.
In an interaction with journalists of foreign media on Thursday, CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli said that the date of November 20 for the election was right and expected.
He has also said that elections should be free and fair.
Khabarhub’s contributor, analyst Subedi appointed foreign affairs adviser to PM
Writer and regular contributor to Khabarhub and analyst Arun Kumar Subedi has been appointed as the foreign affairs advisor to Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba.
Today’s meeting of the Council of Ministers decided to appoint Subedi as PM Deuba’s Foreign Affairs Advisor.
Revenue Secretary Pushkar to serve as Finance Secretary as well
The government has given the responsibility of Finance Secretary to Krishnahari Pushkar for the time being.
Pushkar, who is also the revenue secretary at the Ministry, will shoulder responsibilities of both secretary posts until another secretary arrives.
The Council of Ministers meeting on Thursday entrusted the Finance Ministry’s revenue secretary Pushkar with the task of managing the economy as well.
The meeting has transferred Finance Secretary Madhukumar Marasini to the Prime Minister’s Office.
Nepal sees 760 new coronavirus cases in past 24 hours
Nepal recorded a total of 760 new cases of coronavirus and one COVID-related death in the past 24 hours as of Thursday.
Out of the confirmed cases, 494 were detected through the RT-PCR method and 266 through the Antigen method.
According to the Ministry of Health and Population, a total of 5,926 swab samples were tested in the past 24 hours.
Of them, 2,589 samples were tested through RT-PCR and 3,337 through the Antigen method.
NEPSE sheds 38.61 points on Thursday
The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index lost 38.61 points on Thursday. The index had lost 6.71 points yesterday.
The NEPSE index opened at 2,191.49 points and made an intraday high of 2,193.35 points today (Thursday) while the intraday low touched 2,147.70 points and ultimately closed at 2,148.16 points.
A total of 8,569,005 shares of 215 companies traded hands via 56,819 transactions, resulting in a turnover of Rs 3.76 billion. Wednesday’s turnover had been Rs 4.02 billion.
