UML Chair Oli challenges to show his involvement in SPP

KATHMANDU: CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli has challenged to show his involvement in the US State Partnership Program (SPP).

Taking time to speak at the meeting of the House of Representatives on Monday, he said, “It is said that a letter was sent for the SPP agreement after I had become the Prime Minister. The government under my leadership did not make a decision to that effect,” he said.

Saying that the leaked documents relating to SPP were of very serious nature, he challenged to present evidence of decisions made by him in capacity of the then Prime Minister as well as Defense Minister before the parliament.

He also criticized the ruling side saying that Ministers and lawmakers representing ruling coalition were making baseless accusations. “I have come to speak after it has been enough. This is too much. Enough is enough,” he said.

He also said the fiscal 2022/23 budget showed reflections of certain influential families and the budget was clearly for them. “Why was the budget drafted only to benefit a few families and not everybody?” he questioned.

He charged that by allowing unauthorized entry, taxes were fixed to benefit a handful of families.

“On the day of finalizing tax rates, Finance Secretary and concerned Joint secretaries are not even allowed to go home. They ought to stay in the Ministry,” he said, adding, “But in this case, here they have asked what is the rate of tax you want…”
