UML’s Biratnagar Deputy Mayor candidate Karki sued for filing fake documents

KATHMANDU: A writ petition has been filed in the Supreme Court against UML deputy mayoral candidate Shilpa Karki in Biratnagar Metropolitan City.

Amarendra Yadav, the deputy mayoral candidate of Janata Samajbadi Party in Biratnagar Metropolitan City from the ruling alliance, filed the writ petition demanding revocation of UML candidate Karki’s candidacy on the ground that she did not abide by the Election Commission’s direction.

Yadav complained that despite being exposed to the substantive proof that Karki had not resigned from the lucrative government post while filing her candidacy, the Election Commission (EC) did not heed their complaint.

Yadav made EC the defendant in the case for the latter’s refusal to address their grievances.

“According to the Election Act, a person holding a lucrative position cannot be a candidate without resigning, but the commission did not follow its legal provisions,” he said.

Yadav’s writ petition has been fixed for hearing on Thursday.
