Nepal gives PNG a target of 169 runs

Dipendra becomes first Nepali to score 1000 runs in T20 International



KATHMANDU: Nepal has given a target of 169 runs to Papua New Guinea (PNG) in the final of the Tri-nation T20 International Cricket Series.

Batting first after PNG won the toss and elected to field, Nepal scored 168 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in the stipulated 20 overs.

Dipendra Singh Airee scored a half century for Nepal. Facing 38 balls, he added 54 runs with the help of 5 fours. Similarly, Karan KC scored 33 runs off 12 balls while Ashif Sheikh added 29 runs, Kushal Bhurtel added 25 runs and Mohammad Adil Alam added 15 runs.

PNG’s Semo Kamiya took three wickets while Chad Soper, Kabua Morea and Riley Hekure took one wicket each.

Nepal reached the final unbeaten in the league stage while PNG, which has won only one of the four games in the league stage, entered the final by beating Malaysia in net run rate.

In the meantime, middle-order batsman Dipendra Singh Airee has become the first Nepali batsman to score 1,000 runs in T20 International cricket.

Former captain Paras Khadka, who is in the second position in this list, has 799 runs. Gyanendra Malla, ranked third, with 748 runs.

Dipendra became the sixth ICC Associate Nation player to complete 1,000 runs in T20 International cricket.
