KATHMANDU: The writ petition filed three Deputy Inspector Generals (DIGs)against the government’s selection of Additional Inspector General of Nepal Police (IGP) has been listed as not to be heard on Monday.
Earlier, the hearing was assigned to the single bench of Justice Kumar Regmi. However, it is enlisted as not to be heard today.
The hearing on the writ was affected on Sunday as it had been kept in the list of not to be heard writs scheduled for Sunday. The writ had been assigned to Justice Regmi’s bench on Sunday as well.
Deputy Inspector Generals (DIGs) Ishwar Babu Karki, Ghanshyam Aryal and Prakash Karki had filed a writ petition in the Supreme Court against the government’s promotion recommendation for the post of Additional Inspector General of Police (AIG).
The promotion committee headed by Home Secretary Teknarayan Pandey had recommended the promotion of three other DIGs to the post of AIG.
Disappointed at the promotion of the junior officials as their seniors, the DIG trio had reached the apex court alleging the promotion committee of being biased and discriminatory.
Before going to the apex court, the DIGs had reached the hearing committee against the promotion and lodged a complaint.
The committee had defied reconsideration claiming the recommendation as unbiased and as per the criteria. After that, the cabinet meeting held last Thursday had decided to promote DIGs Basant Kumar Pant, Dhiraj Pratap Singh and Rabindra Bahadur Dhanuk. Pant was third, Singh sixth and Dhanuk eighth in the seniority rank.
The government appoints one person from AIG as Inspector General of Police. For that, four claimants will be considered. If the Supreme Court rules in favor of the DIGs who filed the writ petition, they too will be eligible for the contest of the post of IGP.
