SC hearing writ petitions filed by three DIGs today

KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court (SC) is hearing a writ petition filed by three Deputy Inspector Generals (DIGs), who have gone to the Supreme Court (SC) alleging discrimination in the promotion to the post of Additional Inspector General of Police (AIG).

Sunday’s hearing on the writ was postponed for today.

The hearing of the writ petition has been scheduled on a single bench of Justice Kumar Regmi.

DIGs Ishwar Babu Karki, Ghanshyam Aryal and Prakash Jung Karki had filed a writ petition in the SC last Thursday against the Government of Nepal, the Office of the Prime Minister and the Council of Ministers.

The disgruntled DIGs had reached the apex court with a writ petition obtaining a written statement from the Public Service Commission proving his seniority.

The DIGs have demanded the revocation of the government’s decision to recommend the junior DIGs to the post of AIG.

Prior to filing a case at the SC, the DIGs had lodged a complaint at the hearing committee.

However, the committee had ruled that there was no fault noticed in the procedure.

After that, the cabinet meeting held on Thursday morning had decided to promote Basant Kumar Pant, Dhiraj Pratap Singh and Rabindra Bahadur Dhanuk to the AIG.

They were recommended for promotion to AIG by a promotion committee headed by Home Secretary Teknarayan Pandey. In the rankings, Pant was third, Singh sixth and Dhanuk eighth.
