KATHMANDU: Petrol pump operators across the country have stopped buying petroleum products from Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC), effectively disrupting the fuel supply system in the country.

According to Nepal Petroleum Dealers National Association, an association of petrol pump owners, they have stopped buying petroleum imports from NOC after the latter reduced the commission they had been getting.

“We have protested against the decision to cut off our facilities/benefits. “None of the petrol pumps have taken fuel from NOC depots across the country today,” said an official of the association.

A meeting of the NOC Board of Directors on Thursday had decided to reduce the commission being paid in percentage to petrol pump operators through the price structure.

NOC Spokesperson Binit Mani Upadhyaya acknowledged petrol pump businesses had announced their program earlier. He added, “He had received information that nobody has picked up fuel from NOC depots across the country since Friday morning.”

One of the country’s largest depots Thankot Depot said unlike the regular supply of fuel, fuel had not left the depot for anywhere since this morning.
