Around 4,000 families at high risk as Saptakosi embankment bursts



GAIGHAT: The embankment at the Saptakosi River in Belka Municipality-8 Udayapur district Udayapur has burst putting around 4,000 families at high risk.

The embankment of the Saptakosi River burst and entered the village at 4 am on Wednesday morning.

Villages at Belka Municipalities 2, 3, 8, 9 and Barahkshetra Municipality- 6 have been inundated after the river entered the village.

Chief District Officer Birendra Kumar Yadav informed that the amount of damage caused to the village due to the bursting of the river dam is yet to come.

Yadav said that Nepal Police, Armed Police and local residents are engaged in rescue operations.

Residents of more than a dozen villages of Belka municipality have been exposed to high risk as the flood has moved towards Bahab village.
