Finance Ministry conceals CCTV footage of May 28

The Ministry of Finance has not disclosed the CCTV footage of the day before the budget speech for the fiscal year 2022/23.

The move comes as the secretary of the Consumer Interest Protection Forum Nepal Jay Prasad Poudel, under the Right to Information Act, sought CCTV footage of the day concerned.

Finance Minister Janardan Sharma had presented the budget for the fiscal year 2022/23 in the House of Representatives on May 29.

A few days after the budget was presented, it was disclosed that on the night of May 28 (the day before the budget was presented) Minister Sharma admitted two unauthorized persons into the ministry and fixed the tax rate to benefit some of the companies.

Poudel had sought CCTV footage of the Ministry of Finance on May 28. In the petition, he demanded CCTV footage from 6 pm on May 28 to 6 am on May 29.

However, in a response to Poudel on Sunday (today), the Ministry has said that footages of only 13 days are recorded in the ministry due to the capacity of the cameras installed and footages of previous days are deleted.

Government issues Advertisement Code of Conduct

Minister for Communications and Information Technology Gyanendra Bahadur Karki has said the implementation aspect of any policy is more important than its formulation.

In his address to a program organized in Kathmandu on Saturday to unveil the code of conduct relating to advertisement production, its dissemination, publication and broadcasting, the Minister said though each code of conduct is applied for all, the misconception that “I am free from it” made the implementation aspect challenging.

He urged one and all to realize that code of conduct is for all and none is allowed to violate it.

The Communications Minister was of the opinion of promoting freedom and good governance simultaneously in the nation.

Speaker Sapkota and Malaysian Deputy Speaker Rashid hold talks

Speaker Agni Prasad Sapkota and Deputy Speaker of Malaysia Mohd Rashid Hasnon have held a courtesy meeting today.

They held a meeting on Saturday evening on the sidelines of the Non-Aligned Movement Parliamentary Network’s conference in Baku, the capital city of Azerbaijan, Speaker Sapkota’s personal secretary Govinda Pathak said.

On the occasion, Speaker Sapkota said that Nepal and Malaysia have been enjoying close and cordial relations ever since the two countries established diplomatic relations in 1960. He added that both countries believed in the NAM policy and were committed to the ideals of the United Nations.

Speaker Sapkota thanked Malaysia for providing employment to a large number of Nepalis, recognizing Nepal as the source country for migrant laborers since the beginning of 2001.

Prachanda presents nine agendas in Maoist Center CC meeting

CPN-Maoist Center Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has presented nine agendas to be discussed at the ongoing Central Committee (CC) meeting of the CPN-Maoist Center.

Addressing the inauguration ceremony of the three day long CC meeting in Pragya Bhawan, Kamaladi, Kathmandu on Sunday, Prachanda presented nine agendas for discussion.

During the three-day meeting, the Maoist Center Chair presented the agendas ranging from paying tribute to the martyrs, swearing in a new member of the Central Committee, reporting from the chairperson about the meeting process, reporting on the party’s status in the provinces, reporting on the current situation from the chairperson, organizational issues and structure, and review of local elections as the issues to be discussed in the meeting.

Four tigers released back to the wild

The Chitwan National Park has released four tigers to their natural habitat this year.

The tigers had been apprehended after they were reported to be involved in attacking humans.

The park has released four of the six tigers it has taken under control this year.

Chief Conservation Officer of the park Haribhadra Acharya shared that although four tigers were released in the fiscal year 2021/22, three tigers are still in the cage of the park.

A satellite collar has been attached to the neck of the tigers which were taken to the forest and released.

As a result, the whereabouts of the tiger can be ascertained through the use of software from the park office itself.

NEPSE rise by massive 57.61 points on first day of week

 The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index has gained 57.61 percent on Sunday.

The index that opened at 2028.79 closed at 2,086.38 points at the end of the tading day today.

The NEPSE index has gained a total of 2.84% percent following the loss of 8.87 points last Friday.

The index made at intraday day high of 2,086.38 points and intraday low at 2,020.96 on the first trading day of the week.

A total of 6,227,692 shares of 231 companies changed hands via 45,120 transactions resutling in a turnover of Rs 2.480 billion on Sunday. This is almost one trillon higher than Friday’s turnover of Rs. 1.459 billion.
