Bhaktapur DCC to get leadership on June 11

KATHMANDU: An election to pick leadership of the District Coordination Committee (DCC), Bhaktapur, is taking place on June 11, according to the Office of the Chief Returning Officer.

For this purpose, the date for filing the nomination is fixed for June 6.

Chief Returning Officer Gopal Prasad Bastola said the election process started with the publication of voters’ names on Thursday and the election would be held on June 11 by completing all processes adding that the results would be announced on the same day.

For the election to the chief and deputy of DCC, Nepal Workers’ Peasants Party (NWPP) is a decisive force in Bhaktapur.

From the total four municipalities, CPN-UML has three voters, two from NC and NWPP, and one of the CPN (Maoist Centre).

If the current coalition between the NC and Maoist Centre continues in the DCC election, the total votes for the coalition and UML will be equal, making the NWPP decisive in the leadership election.

NC district committee president Durlav Thapa said they were holding discussions with different forces to forge consensus as no party has a single majority in the election of the DCC. “We are holding discussions with NWPP. We have not received a clear stance from NWPP. Also, talks are taking place with UML,” Thapa said.
