Pakistan President dissolves National Assembly on PM Khan’s recommendation

ISLAMABAD: In an unexpected move, the President of Pakistan has dissolved the National Assembly on the advice of Prime Minister Imran Khan.

“The Prime Minister will continue his duties under Article 224 of the Constitution. The Cabinet has been dissolved,” said minister Pakistan Fawad Chaudhry.

Prime Minister Khan had earlier said on Sunday said he had sent advice to the president to dissolve the country’s parliament, and call fresh elections.

The move came minutes after the deputy speaker of the parliament “rejected” a no-trust motion against the prime minister, terming it “unconstitutional”, aa.com.tr. said.

The combined opposition, led by the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), had submitted the no-confidence motion against Khan on March 8, contending that the prime minister has lost the trust of the majority of lawmakers.
