Three arrested with 1.05 kg illegal gold from TIA

KATHMANDU: Police have arrested three persons in possession of 1.05 kg of gold and five sets of mobile phones from Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA).

The arrested are Sunil Kumar Sah, 32, of Rautahat, Nawaraj Pariyar, 28, of Makwanpur and Dawa Tshering Sherpa, 39, of Sindhupalchowk.

The Metropolitan Police Airport Security Office arrested them from the arrival terminal of TIA on Thursday. They had caught Himalayan Airlines and Air Arabia flights to Kathmandu from Dubai and Al Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates.

Police recovered four iPhone 13 Pro Max and a 50-gram gold ring and a chain from Sah and an iPhone 13 Pro Max and two 50-gram gold rings from Pariyar. Likewise, Sherpa had hidden 1 kg 55-gram semi-solid gold in the rectum.

According to the Airport Security Office, they were handed over to the TIA Customs Office for further investigation.
