Visa term of migrant workers under EPS extended by a year in South Korea

SEOUL: The visa term of migrant workers coming from various countries under the Employment Permit System (EPS) has been extended by one year.

The South Korean government extended the visa term of migrant workers, including the Nepali migrant workers, whose visa term was terminating from January 1 to April 12. The migrant workers coming here get visa for three years in the beginning.

The law provides for extending the visa term by one year 10 months upon termination of the first visa term.

The migrant workers have been relieved as South Korea has not been able to bring the migrant workers in the required numbers due to the COVID-19 pandemic in the recent years.

The visa term has been extended only to the migrant workers whose visa term of three years or four years 10 months was terminating, said Udaya Rai, president of the Migrants Trade Union (MTU).
