POKHARA: Nepali Congress (NC)’s Spokesperson and Election Publicity Committee Coordinator, Dr Prakash Sharan Mahat, claimed that the ruling five-party coalition would win the upcoming parliamentary election with clear two-thirds majority.
The House of Representatives and Province Assembly elections are scheduled on November 20 this year.
At a press meet organized by the Nepal Press Union, Kaski chapter in Pokhara today, leader Mahat said, “Not only political parties, the public have also wished for the Nepali Congress-led government. Development works were massively delivered on school, roads, electricity, hospitals and airlines sector during the leadership of NC.
Hitting out at the erstwhile government for not walking the talks, Mahat blamed that the Nepali public could not get vaccine against COVID-19 when that government was embroiled in the dealing of commission.
He assured that it was only his party that could safeguard constitution, human rights, individual freedom and democracy and the current coalition was formed for protection of constitution and political stability.
Furthermore, the former Minister appealed with all the NC cadres and leaders to work actively to elect coalition candidates without any biasness. He also requested those NC leaders and cadres not getting tickets to contest in the upcoming elections and cadres not to be disappointed for, he argued, that due to seat-sharing within the coalition, NC would not claim its stake in all seats.
Citing his own example, he admitted that he could not contest in the upcoming election in First-Past-The-Post system this time despite his earnest will. According to him, the coalition partners are contesting forging an electoral alliance to win as many as seats which would have been difficult for a single party to win the same.
The Spokesperson of the oldest democratic party, Dr. Mahat shared that NC was hell-bent to protect the political achievements and was considering amendment in the constitution, constitutionally and as per the demand of time.
Also speaking in the press meet, NC central member Dila Shangraula urged all party cadres and voters for their active participation in the election, arguing that a single vote mattered a lot in the 0upcoming election. “NC is the party that delivers but is lagging behind due to its inability to publicize its works and achievements among the people,” she viewed.
