Nov 20 elections: Deadline to amend PR closed list ending today

KATHMANDU: The deadline given by the Election Commission (EC) to the political parties to make changes in the names in the Proportional Representation (PR) closed list for the House of Representatives and State Assembly elections is ending today.

The EC had asked the political parties to submit the corrected list from September 26 to October 2.

As many as 48 parties have submitted the PR closed list for the House of Representatives.

36 parties, including major parties, have submitted the corrected list so far.

According to the EC, 68 applications from 76 parties have been submitted for the PR system for the House of Representatives election.

The EC estimated that there would be 20,000 PR candidates if all the parties submit the closed list.

According to the mixed election system, 40 percent of the members of HoR and Provincial Assembly are elected through the PR electoral system.

Similarly, the EC informed that 110 lawmakers in the HoR and 220 in the Provincial Assembly will be elected through the PR system.
