Relief support to flood-affected farmers of Kailali

KAILALI: Relief support has been distributed to the flood-affected farmers of Kailali who lost near-harvest paddy due to the unseasonable rain in October last year.

Farmers who were affected by the rainfall and floods last year are getting relief money in the form of compensation. Accordingly, the Bhajani Municipality has started distributing the relief money provided by the provincial government.

Chief of the Agriculture Branch of Bhajani Municipality, Kamal Chaudhary, said that relief money has been given to the farmers affected by the floods triggered by unseasonal rains in October last year. Relief has been provided to the farmers on the basis of loss they incurred.

The farmers have been given Rs 315 per kattha for those who have lost paddy crops in less than 10 katthas of land, Rs 125 for those who have lost 11 to 60 katthas and Rs 75 per kattha for those who have lost more than 60 katthas.

The municipality has stated that it is providing relief amount to a farmer not to exceed Rs. 55,000. The provincial government has provided Rs. 29.2 million for the relief support in Bhajani municipality. The relief amount has been distributed to the farmers through banks.

Similarly, relief distribution process has been started in Tikapur Municipality and Janaki Rural Municipality. A bank account is being opened in Tikapur to transfer relief money to the affected farmers, said Tikapur Municipality Agriculture Branch Chief Motisingh BK. (RSS)
