KATHMANDU: Additional Inspector General (AIG) of Nepal Police Bishwaraj Pokharel has filed a writ petition in the Supreme Court against the government’s decision to promote Dhiraj Pratap Singh to the post of Inspector General of Police (IGP).
AIGP Pokhrel has also sought interim order demanding to be assigned the role of acting IGP till the SC’s final verdict comes.
According to Pokhrel’s advocate Sunita Raut, Pokharel sought the revocation of the decision of the Council of Ministers to promote Singh saying that he (Pokhrel) is ahead in all aspects, including seniority, performance appraisal, educational qualification, training, award and command.
A cabinet meeting held on Sunday afternoon had promoted AIG Singh to the post of IGP.
Sensing the possibility of being put aside in promotion, senior IGPs duo Pokhrel and Sahakul Bahadur Thapa had got their leave approved for one month and 10 days respectively while IGP Shailesh Thapa was still in office.
Although AIG Thapa is still busy consulting the legal practitioners, AIG Pokhrel filed his protest on the apex court Monday.
SC has scheduled the preliminary hearing on the case for Wednesday.
