Good governance, transparency, accountability must in democracy: NC leader Koirala

POKHARA: Nepali Congress (NC) senior leader Dr Shekhar Koirala said good governance, transparency and accountability was a must in democracy.

Speaking at a program in Pokhara today, Dr Koirala reiterated that good governance, transparency and accountability were fundamental conditions of democracy.

Noting that periodic election, democratic consolidation and economic development are inter-connected, he stressed the need to spur production along with financial good governance for prosperity.

The country’s purchasing capacity was not in a good condition now, he said, adding ballooning trade deficit of Rs 1800 billion was a serious issue.

Dr Koirala further said that running government and electoral alliance were completely different things.

He pointed out a need to make serious review on the issues, including impacts of electoral alliance on party organization in coming days.
