Prime Minister Deuba and Indian Prime Minister Modi inaugurate Jayanagar- Janakpur rail service

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba and his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi have inaugurated the Janakpur-Jayanagar railway service by showing green flag in a program organized at Hyderabad House, New Delhi.

With the inauguration, the train will run regularly.

After the inauguration of the Broad Gauge Railway connected to Bardibas on the East-West Highway of Nepal from the great Jackson Jayanagar of India, the train will now carry passengers regularly from Jayanagar to Kurtha from Sunday.

The train will run twice in the morning and in the afternoon on Jayanagar-Kurtha section. Tickets will be available online as well.

According to Niranjan Jha, general manager of Nepal Railway Company,  the Janakpur-Jayanagar fare has been fixed at Rs. 70 and Kurtha-Jayanagar at Rs. 90. For AC seats, the passengers have to pay Rs 350 for Janakpur-Jayanagar fare Rs 450 for Kurtha-Jayanagar.

Twenty-six Indian technical staff have arrived to run the train. Both the train sets were brought to Janakpur from India in September 2020. The train was covered with tents for a long time. The ‘dry run’ has started from lastMarch 15.

Earlier, an agreement was reached with the Government of India on May 10 2019 regarding the purchase of railways. Indian Railway Company Konkan has provided both the railway sets at a cost of Rs 846.5 million.
