KATHMANDU: Nepali youth in Ukraine Pratap Basnet has also lined up on behalf of Ukraine to fight the war against Russia.

While other Nepalis in Ukraine have sought the shelter in safe places in the neighboring countries of Ukraine, Basnet has opened himself to fight for the country he has been living in.

Recording a video message from Ukraine, he informed that he joined the army to fight in the war against Russia.

His video is going viral in social media.

“Ukraine is fighting a war against Russia now. As a true patriot I decided to line up on Ukraine side, in this war to safeguard the sovereignty,” Basnet said, adding, “ Ukraine is in dire need of assistance at this time. I am proud to be part of Ukraine army and fight the war.”

After the Russian invasion, many Nepalese living in Ukraine have fled from the capital Kiev to neighboring countries including Poland, Belarus and Germany. They are preparing to return to Nepal from there. However, unlike his friends Basnet stayed at Kiev and joined Ukraine forces.
