Supreme Court stays Election Commission’s decision to scrap Dr. Karki’s candidacy

KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court has ordered the Election Commission not to scrap the candidacy of Rastriya Swotantra Party candidate in Lalitpur-3 Dr Tosima Karki as of now.

A single bench of Judge Kumar Chudal issued an interim order not to immediately implement the Election Commission’s decision to cancel Dr Karki’s candidature, said apex court Assistant Spokesperson Devendra Dhakal.

The Supreme Court has also sought a written reply from the Election Commission on this issue.

The Election Commission had scrapped Dr Karki’s candidature on Saturday citing that she was an elected member of the Nepal Medical Council and the position was a position of profit.

Karki had filed a writ against the Election Commission’s decision in the Supreme Court on Monday.
