KATHMANDU: CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli has said that he had to step down as Prime Minister after he took to incorporating the territory of Limpiyadhura, Kalapani and Lipulek in the Nepali map.
He said so during the book launch event held in Kathmandu on Monday.
Former Secretary Dwarikanath Dhungel written book ‘Chakrabiuma Nepali Jalsroat’ was launched on the occasion.
“… it was not an issue of dispute since the land across the Mahakali River was said to be Nepal’s in the Sugauli Treaty. But that area was removed from the map of Nepal. I knew then that there would be a big trouble here once i put that part on Nepal’s map. As forseen, I had to step down,” he said.
Oli said that there is no dispute that Limpiyadhura, Lipulek and Kalapani are Nepali territories after the Sugauli Treaty considers the Mahakali river as the border.
He added that in his first stint as prime minister also, he had to step down after signing the transit treaty with China.
Former Prime Minister Oli said, “Being removed as Prime Minister doesn’t worry me, what worries is – what direction is the country going in?”
