Nepal Bar officials urge Speaker to proceed and settle impeachment of Chief Justice Rana



KATHMANDU: The Nepal Bar Association has requested Speaker Agni Prasad Sapkota to proceed with the impeachment motion against the suspended Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher Rana and finalize the case.

A team of Bar officials reached the Speaker’s office at Singha Durbar on Monday to request the Speaker not to delay anymore to proceed with the impeachment of Chief Justice Rana.

The impeachment motion against Rana has been pending in the federal parliament for long.

Nepal Bar General Secretary Anjita Khanal said a team of Nepal Bar met Speaker Sapkota and demanded that the impeachment of Chief Justice be settled from the current session of parliament.

Lawmakers of the ruling Nepali Congress and CPN-Maoist Center filed an impeachment proposal against Rana at the Parliament Secretariat on February 13, and the House of Representatives formed an impeachment recommendation committee on March 7.

However, neither the committee nor the parliament has worked on the impeachment motion.

Chief Justice Rana has been under suspended since 4 months after the impeachment proposal was taken up by parliament.
