President Bhandari emphasizes on role of law education for promotion of rule of law

KATHMANDU: President Bidya Devi Bhandari has said that the law professors and students of university have a pivotal role to promote public awareness on the constitution and the law, and its enforcement in society.

She described law education as the basis for establishing the rule of law.

President Bhandari said this addressing the 68th founding day of Nepal Law Campus, a constituent college of the Tribhuvan University, here today.

The Head-of-State underscored the need for the university professors to monitor as well as give feedback, through academic debates, to the bodies related to law-making, law adjudication and law implementation regarding the deviations that are seen infrequently in course of the constitutional and legal exercise in the nation.

“It is extremely necessary to move ahead to the law education keeping abreast of the changing times by developing the required physical and institutional structures for producing skilled legal human resources required for the nation and who can face new challenges of the new age, ” the President said.

She viewed that the legal education should also incorporate a mix of knowledge, skills, conscience and morality as the law education is mainly directly related to the life, liberty, dignity and property of the citizen.

On the occasion, President Bhandari handed awards to the outstanding students and also launched the ‘Founding Day Souvenir’ published by the Campus.

Dr Surya Subedi was honored with the ‘Nepal Law Campus Golden Jubilee Award’.

Acting Chief Justice Deepak Kumar Karki and Constituent Assembly Chair Subas Chandra Nembang were present on the occasion.

The historic Campus, established in 2011 BS before the establishment of Tribhuvan University, has been producing skilled and capable human resources required by the nation in the field of law.
