DHARAN: The Dharan Sub-Metropolitan City, Ward No. 2 Office has urged for transfer of ownership of Dharan Clock Tower to the ward office from the ad-hoc management committee.

Ward chairperson Ramesh Rai said it is the time to transfer the ownership to the ward office as the iconic clock tower falls in the ward.

”We have been raising the voice of transfer of managerial tasks and income of the clock tower from the ad-hoc management committee to the ward office since long,” said Rai.

He added, ”But, things are not going as expected. We want the transfer of the clock tower managerial ownership from private group to the local unit of local government.”

The official foundation stone laying ceremony at the Dharan Clock Tower was carried out on January 5, 2001, and the touristic magnet of Dharan was inaugurated on January 4, 2006.

It is located at the Dharan’s central thoroughfare called Bhanu Chowk and it is a major touristic draw and the secular city symbol of Dharan. This clock tower is under the leadership of former mayor Manoj Menyangbo, who had led to build this landmark.

The former mayor is still the chairperson of the Dharan Clock Tower Management Committee.
