Begging prohibited in public places of Kathmandu metropolis



KATHMANDU: Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has prohibited begging in public places from now on.

The Metropolis on Friday issued a notice stating that begging is not allowed in the streets, public places, parks, around government offices, parking lots, and bus stands.

The information has been published on the basis of the policy approved by the 11th session of the Kathmandu Municipal Council to discourage begging or begging for alms,

However, the rule has exempted saints and monks who take alms from visiting houses as per the tradition from time immemorial, or on religious or cultural activities.

Violation of the rule will result in action in accordance with Article 126 of the Criminal Code 2074 BS, Local Government Operation Act 2074 BSand prevailing law, the metropolis said.
