KATHMANDU: The disgruntled faction of the Nepali Congress (NC) led by Shekhar Koirala is meeting today as well.

In a meeting held on Thursday, the faction alleged party President Sher Bahadur Deuba of running the party arbitrarily, and not abiding by the party statute.

Leaders of the faction had in the meeting expressed dissatisfaction saying that the party could not function properly even after the 14th general convention.

Disgruntled with the party leadership, the Koirala-led faction Koirala has been making a strategy to exert pressure on the party leadership to comply with the party statute.

The Koirala-led faction has been criticizing Deuba for his non-compliance with the statute, and for not convening a timely meeting of the party’s central working committee (CWC).

“The disgruntled faction is in a mood to exert pressure on the party leadership to call the CWC meeting and implement the statutory provision on the issues of leadership selection of the sister organizations, formation of departments, among other issues, which the party leadership has been paying no attention to,” a Nepali Congress central working committee member said.

The leader close to Dr. Koirala said that party President Deuba unilaterally nominated his close ones to the leadership of Nepal Student’s Union (NSU) and Tarun Dal.

NC President Deuba nominated Dujang Sherpa as the President of NSU, and Bidhan Gurung as Tarun Dal president.

“This is a violation of the party statute,” he complained adding that the leadership did not even consider the issue for discussion with the party leaders.

He said that the disgruntled faction will soon exert pressure on the leadership to convene the CWC meeting at the earliest.

According to the party statute, the CWC meeting should be held within two months. But the meeting has not been held since last April.

Six out of the party’s 10 sister organizations have not been able to hold their convention on time.

It’s been already six months since the party’s 14th General Convention.

According to the statute, the Departments were to be formed within six months.
