Freight rates for truck containers operating at Rasuwagadhi and Tatopani likely to increase

KATHMANDU: Freight rates for truck containers operating at Rasuwagadhi and Tatopani, major northern trade points with China, are likely to increase.

The Nepal Truck Container Transportation Service said it would increase the freight rates for truck containers operating at Rasuwagadhi and Tatopani, major northern trade ports with China with the rise in the price of petroleum products.

Chairman of the Nepal Truck Container Transportation Service Arjun Bahadur Sapkota has sent a letter to the Chief District Officers of Rasuwa and Sindhupalchowk suggesting to adjust the freight rates of truck and containers operating with effect from June 8.

According to the adjusted rate, the fare for readymade garments from Timure to Kathmandu has been fixed at Rs 150,000 and apples at Rs 85,000.

Similarly, Rs 50,000 has been suggested for readymade garments and Rs 45,000 for apples from Tatopani to Kathmandu.

Sapkota said that despite the continuous increase in motor parts and fuel, the government and other concerned sectors have not increased fares in the transport sector.

Trade from China has been affected after the coronavirus pandemic. China has been bringing goods to Nepal in its vehicles citing the pandemic.

The Chinese side has been bringing goods to Nepal through its 14 containers daily through Rasuwagadhi.
