KATHMANDU: The Government of Nepal has promoted Additional Inspector General of Police Dhiraj Pratap Singh to the post of Inspector General of Police (IGP).
A meeting of the Council of Ministers held on Sunday made the decision to this effect.
Singh will lead the police organization from Monday, it has been learned.
Additional Inspector General of Nepal Police Bishwaraj Pokhrel, Sahakul Bahadur Thapa, Dhiraj Pratap Singh and Rabindra Bahadur Dhanuk were vying for the top post.
Although Singh was a junior in terms of service entry, he was promoted to the post of Additional Inspector General of Police.
Born in 2024 BS in Bijaura of Dailekh district, Singh has a bachelor’s degree in law and a master’s degree in humanities.
He had competed for the post of inspector along with the team including the outgoing IGP Shailesh Thapa.
Singh will now run the police organization for one year.
While Singh was the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police, he headed the Madhesh Pradesh and the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB).
As Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), he headed the then Metropolitan Crime Investigation Branch (now the Valley Crime Investigation Office). As an SP, he led Parsa and Dang districts.
