Security personnel carry out joint patrolling at Nepal-India border area

NEPALGUNJ: Security officials from both Nepal and India are carrying out joint patrolling and stricter security checks in Jamunaha and Rupaidiya points, Deputy Superintendent of Police of Banke Madhu Sudan Neupane said.

In view of security sensitivity for the upcoming local level election, the officials have intensified security situation in no-man’s land of the Nepal-India border in Banke district.

The security situation at the border points has been beefed up considering that illegal arms could be brought in from no-man’s land to affect the polls scheduled for May 13.

The District Police Office, Banke, said security checks have been made strict in the border area as illegal incidents could happen from India due to open border during the time of election.

Overall issues of security are being raised in a joint meeting of security officials taking place later today, it is said. Banke district shares 65 kilometres of open border with Indian side.

Meanwhile, CCTV cameras are to be installed in all voting stations in Banke, Chief District Officer of Banke Surya Bahadur Khatri said.

“We have been carrying out monitoring of different voting stations as part of preparations for the same,” according to CDO Khatri.

The government has made mandatory provision for the installation of CCTV cameras in the voting stations.

In Banke, 112 voting stations are categorised as highly-sensitive ones from the security point of view while 24 others are mentioned as sensitive.
