PNG bags wide victory over Malaysia in the tri-nation series Friday



KATHMANDU: Papua New Guinea (PNG) has won the Friday’s match of the tri-nation T20 International Cricket Series against Malaysia by 8 wickets.

PNG completed the 197-run target set by Malaysia by losing 2 wickets in 17.5 overs. Tony Ura and captain Assad Vala played half-century innings to lead PNG for the victory.

Ura, who remained unbeaten on 86, struck 10 sixes and two fours in 34 balls. Javelin, who faced 51 balls, remained unbeaten on 76 runs with eight fours and a six. Vala and Ura shared an unbeaten 137 for the third wicket to give the team a comfortable victory.

Vala and Charles Amini shared 61 runs for the second wicket. Amini was out for 28 runs.

Mohammed Wafiq and Sajarul Idrus of Malaysia took one wicket each.

Earlier, after losing the toss at the Tribhuvan Cricket Ground in Kirtipur, Malaysia lost 6 wickets in the allotted 20 overs and scored 196 runs.

Syed Aziz and captain Ahmed Faiz scored half-centuries for the Malaysian team. Aziz, who scored 64 runs, struck eight fours and three sixes in 35 balls.

Faiz scored 63 off 43 balls with five fours and three sixes while Jubaidi Zulkifle added 46 runs. Aziz and Faiz shared an excellent 125-run partnership for the third wicket. This is the first century partnership for Malaysia in T20 International.

For PNG, Kabua Morea took four wickets and Chad Soper and Riley Hekure took one wicket each. With this victory, PNG has added 2 points in 4 games and has maintained its final chances. Earlier, he had lost to Nepal by 15 and 37 runs and Malaysia by 8 runs.

Malaysia, which added 2 points from 3 games, still has a chance to reach the final. He will face Nepal in his last match on Saturday. Earlier, Malaysia had defeated PNG by 8 runs and lost by 6 wickets to Nepal.
