Government preparing to hold local elections by May 29

KATHMANDU: The government has initiated consultations with the stakeholders, particularly the Election Commission to hold local elections by May 29 this year.

According to the Election Commission (EC), the law does not need an amendment if the local level elections are held by May 29.

Sources said that the EC is not in favor of amending the law or deferring the local elections.

“The government will most likely announce the date sometime soon,” the source said.
