Maoist Center’s provincial committees tasked with finalizing Central Committee members under proportional system



KATHMANDU: The CPN-Maoist Center has delegated the task of finalizing Central Committee members under the proportional system to provincial committees.

The statute passed by the Maoist Center’s 8th General Convention earlier Saturday mandated electing 154 members to the Central Committee under the proportional representative electoral system.

The provincial committees have begun discussions at Nepal Academy – the general convention venue — in Kathmandu to finalize 154 Central Committee candidates ensuring inclusivity of different clusters under the proportional system.

Of the 154 candidates, 21 will be selected from Province 1, 25 from Province 2, 30 from Bagmati, 14 from Gandaki, 23 from Lumbini, 17 from Karnali, 16 from Sudurpaschim and 8 from special areas.

The remaining members of the Central Committee will be elected through open competition.

The Maoist Center has a 299-member Central Committee.
