Closed session postponed till 5 pm to agree on selection of leadership

Election for Maoist leadership to move ahead if consensus unlikely by 5 pm

KATHMANDU: The closed session of the eighth general convention of the CPN-Maoist has been postponed until 5 pm Saturday.

Addressing the closed session earlier, Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ gave the Presidium until 5 pm to forge consensus on the selection of Central Committee members and the office-bearers.

A leader, quoting Chair Prachanda, said the Election Committee would move ahead with the leadership selection process if agreement could not be reached by 5 pm.

“Now the presidium has been given time to reach a consensus. If there is no agreement, then the Election Committee has to take its work forward as per its rules and regulations,” said the leader, quoting Prachanda.

Earlier, the closed session had passed the proposed statute with amendments.
