Proposed statute passed with amendments

KATHMANDU: The CPN-Maoist Center’s eighth General Convention has approved the party’s proposed statute with amendments on Saturday.

Earlier, the last Central Committee meeting approved the proposed statute, including amendments, in a closed session.

According to the endorsed party statute, the Central Committee will have 299 members and 15 office bearers.

The office bearers include one chairperson, one senior vice-chairperson, six vice-chairpersons, one general secretary, two deputy general secretaries, three secretaries, and one treasurer. The statute provisioned for an inclusive team of office-bearers.

Similarly, the Central Committee would fulfill 50 percent of members from the open competition while inclusive arrangements would be made for the remaining 50 percent. Likewise, 15 percent of members are to be nominated in the Central Committee against the provision of 10 percent nominations in the past.

According to a Maoist leader, the statute after amendments has also provisioned for a National Council as per the suggestions received from group discussions.

He added that the party could also form non-geographical special committees in the province as well as at the center. Accordingly, divisions and subdivisions would be formed.

Following the passage of the draft statute, a Standing Committee meeting of the party is being held to begin the process of election for the new leadership of the party.
