Nepali Army reaches out to Gurja avalanche survivors

MYAGDI: A team of Nepali Army returned after reaching out to the survivors of an avalanche at Gurja in Dhawalagiri rural municipality-1 in the district.

The Army team from Kathmandu reached the incident site along with relief materials and a rescue team on a helicopter following the avalanche.

One local Ram Bahadur Chhantyal, 50, has gone missing in the disaster while three others—Jagdevi Chhantyal, Buddhi Chhantyal and Lal Bahadur Chhantyal—have been stranded. All of them were residing in a hut away from the settlement when the disaster occurred, said the police.

A team of four persons taken by the army’s helicopter has been mobilised for a rescue effort, said ward chair Jhhak Chhantyal.
The disaster also caused property losses and disrupted the road, electricity and mobile towers. The incident site is remote.

It takes one-day walk from neighbouring Lulang to reach the village. So in view of difficulties in rescue efforts, the Nepali Army team was called for a help, said the Rural Municipality Vice Chair Resham Chhantyal.
