All Nepalis to be evacuated from Afghanistan by Tuesday

828 people return home by Monday

KATHMANDU: With the deadline set by the Taliban for foreigners to leave Afghanistan coming to an end today, all Nepalis in Afghanistan will be evacuated by Tuesday.

According to Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) sources, around 200 Nepalis waiting to be airlifted will be rescued today. Foreign troops, including the United States, and foreign nationals have already left Afghanistan on Monday.

“Those who can come to Nepal will come to Nepal today and some Nepalis will go and live in other countries. They will be brought to Nepal later,” the Ministry said.

As of Monday, 828 Nepali nationals have returned home from Afghanistan.

According to the MoFA, 45 people returned from a regular Turkish Air flight on Monday and five from a Fly Dubai flight on Sunday evening.

COVID-19 Crisis Management Center (CCMC) has made the arrangement for the necessary tests and shelter for the returning Nepali nationals.

The Ministry has requested the families of the people in Afghanistan to contact the online portal on the website of the Department of Consular Services and the available mobile numbers.
