KATHMANDU: Opposition parties of Lumbini Province Assembly (PA) have submitted a letter to Province Chief Amik Sherchan claiming Shankar Pokharel-led government is in minority in Lumbini PA.
A team of opposition parties, including Nepali Congress (NC), CPN-Maoist Center, Janata Samajbadi Party Nepal and Rastriya Janamorcha, handed over a letter of attention to Province Chief Sherchan stating that the government is in the minority and is operating unconstitutionally.
“Instead of taking vote of confidence after then ruling alliance CPN-Maoist Center left the government on April 29, the government has been running illegally and unconstitutionally,” the letter submitted to Province Chief Sherchan said, adding, “The parliament session was abruptly adjourned without facing the no-confidence motion tabled in the parliament on April 1 and the letter of appointment of the Chief Minister was taken trickily.”
The opposition parties have accused CM Pokharel of forging the signature of 3 Province Assembly members.
NC parliamentary party leader Birendra Kumar Kanadia, Maoist Center parliamentary leader Kul Prasad KC, JSP parliamentary party leader Sahasram Yadav and Rastriya Janamorcha parliamentary party leader Tara GC along with other opposition party leaders reached at Province Chief Sherchan’s office to hand over the letter on Saturday.
The coalition claimed that out of 80 members in the province assembly, 42 support the opposition when CM Pokharel has the support of only 38 lawmakers.
Province Chief Sherchan assured the opposition parties, Sherchan to talk to CM Pokharel on the issue and settle the dispute constitutionally.
