Pleading of writ petitioners on HoR dissolution concludes

KATHMANDU: Arguments on behalf of the petitioners against the dissolution of the House of Representatives concluded on Sunday.

The writ petitioner’s lawyers have concluded their debates on the case against the dissolution of the House.

Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher JBR has been leading the five-member Constitutional Bench to look into the case.

On Sunday, 13 writ lawyers argued against the House dissolution at the Constitutional Bench.

All the lawyers arguing in favor of the writ petition have demanded that the unconstitutional move be scrapped as the prime minister has no right to dissolve the parliament.

A total of 13 writ petitions were registered at the Supreme Court seeking the restoration of the House, which was dissolved on December 20 by President Bidya Bhandari upon the recommendation of Prime Minister KP Oli.

The cases have been heard continuously in the Constitutional Bench since January 6.

From Monday onwards, government attorneys including Attorney General Agni Kharel and other lawyers will debate in favor of the House dissolution.

The Constitutional Bench comprises CJ Rana, Justices Tej Bahadur KC, Bishwambhar Prasad Shrestha, Anil Kumar Sinha and Sapana Pradan Malla.
