It’s official: Chair Oli re-claims UML leadership; all office bearers proposed by UML chair elected

Party's Election Commission Coordinator Dr. Subba administers oath of office to Chair Oli



KATHMANDU: Chairman KP Sharma Oli has been re-elected the chairperson of the CPN-UML from the ongoing 10th general convention. Likewise, all office bearers proposed by Chair Oli have also secured victories.

Chair Oli bagged 1,837 votes against his opponent Dr. Bhim Rawal, who was limited to 223 votes, said UML Election Commission Coordinator Dr. Bijay Subba. Though Rawal lost the election for leadership to Oli, he has been elected as the party’s central member, added Dr. Subba.

In the meantime, Election Commission Coordinator Dr. Subba also administered the oath of office and secrecy to re-elected Chair Oli.

Vice-chairperson candidates Asta Laxmi Shakya bagged 1,976 votes, Surendra Pandey 1,925 votes, Subash Nembang 1,865 votes, Bishnu Poudel 1,856 votes, Yubaraj Gyawali 1,842 votes and Ram Bahadur Thapa 1,768 votes to be elected to the post. These six vice-chairs were proposed by Oli in closed session in course of the general convention.

Ghanshyam Bhusal, a rebel candidate for the vice-chair’s post, got 725 votes only and lost the election.

Likewise, all seven secretaries proposed by Chair Oli in the closed session also secured victories.

Gokarna Bista (1,976 votes), Yogesh Bhattarai (1,964 votes), Chhabilal Bishwakarma (1,800 votes), Padma Aryal (1,800 votes), Lekhraj Bhatt (1,704 votes), Top Bahadur Rayamajhi (1,700 votes) and Raghuvir Mahaseth (1,513 votes) have been elected as UML secretaries.

Rebel candidates for the post of UML secretary Bhim Acharya and Tank Karki were defeated.

Similarly, Ishwor Pokharel has been elected to senior vice-chairperson and Shankar Pokhrel as the general-secretary. They were elected without any opposition. Also, Pradeep Kumar Gyawali, Prithivi Subba Gurung and Bishnu Rimal have been elected to deputy general-secretary post unopposed.
