SC hearing on former Maoist Center leaders’ writ postponed

KATHMANDU: Supreme Court did not conduct the hearing on the writ petition filed by four lawmakers seeking reinstatement in the parliament claiming that they had not abandoned the CPN-Maoist center citing the petitioners requested for postponement.

Though the hearing was scheduled in a single bench of Justice Ananda Mohan Bhattarai, SC postponed the hearing as per the latest request from the petitioners.

Earlier, the hearing was scheduled in the bench of Justice Deepak Kumar Karki on Thursday, but was not heard citing the lack of time that day.

Leaders Lekhraj Bhatt, Top Bahadur Rayamajhi, Prabhu Sah and Gauri Shankar Chaudhary, who had left the Maoist Center politically and joined CPN-UML, had filed separate writ petitions in the Supreme Court on Wednesday seeking reinstatement in the parliament and claiming they should be reinstated as Maoist Center lawmakers.

They have demanded to reverse the decision of dismissing them from the parliamentary as the Election Commission still kept them in the list of Maoist Center lawmakers.

After the revival of the UML and the Maoist Center, these four leaders had joined the UML’s chairman KP Oli faction saying that they would resign but would not leave with then Prime Minister Oli.

They were dismissed from the parliament on the basis of Maoist Center Chairman’s letter written to the Parliament Secretariat seeking their dismissal on April 6.
