Chinese national running a liquor factory illegally in Thamel arrested

KATHMANDU: In yet another instance of Chinese nationals’ illegal activities in Nepal, police on Friday arrested a Chinese national for running a liquor factory illegally in Thamel, Kathmandu.

According to SP Krishna Koirala, police seized as many as 150 drums of illegal alcohol from a room rented by a Chinese national in Jyatha, Thamel.

The Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office raided the house rented by a Chinese national named Shi Zhiwei, originally from Jiangsu Province in China with the passport number EC6243186, after receiving tip-off that alcohol was being made illegally there.

SP Krishna Koirala informed that 150 drums of liquor, each containing 50 liters, a machine used for making liquor, and a Chinese national were taken under control.

According to Koirala, Chinese nationals have been renting a house in Thamel to make homemade liquor from a machine.

It has been revealed that the arrested Chinese national had been living in Kathmandu for a long time and carrying out illegal work here.

According to the police, Shi had been producing “Chinese Kodo Pure Local Liquor” illegally in a rented house in Jyatha.

Shi, who came to Nepal on a tourist visa, was found to be running a local liquor factory illegally, said Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Chandra Kuber Khapung.

According to SSP Khapung, the police also seized four steel machines, a liquor storage tank, a weighing machine, and 113 small jars of homemade liquor.

Police have launched an investigation into the incident.
