KATHMANDU: The government has increased the budget and facilities for the security sector. Finance Minister Bishnu Poudel announced an increment in facilities of the security agencies in the budget presented on Saturday.
The budget of the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Ministry of Defense has increased by Rs 28 billion for the upcoming fiscal year. A sum of Rs 166.90 billion has been allocated for the Ministry of Home Affairs, which is 10.13 percent of the total budget.
Poudel also said that human trafficking would be controlled by strengthening the security forces through the use of modern equipment, information technology, and training.
The rations have been increased by 15 percent to maintain the overall morale of the Nepal Police and the Armed Police Force. Similarly, 120 more Border Outposts (BOPs) of the Armed Police Force will be set up in the border areas to control border security, crime and illegal trade.
The budget of the Ministry of Defense has also increased by about Rs 790 million to 51.44 billion. It was Rs 50.25 billion in the current year.
The government has planned to increase the capacity of the Nepal Army for mobilizing it for national security and defense and development and disaster management.
