No-confidence motion fizzles out in Province 1 Assembly

KATHMANDU: Province 1 lawmakers have withdrawn their support to a no-confidence motion filed against Chief Minister Sher Dhan Rai in the Provincial Assembly (PA) Tuesday.

Earlier, PA members of Nepal Communist Party (NCP) had filed a no-confidence motion against Province 1 Chief Minister Sher Dhan Rai on December 27, 2020.

As many as 16 PA members of the CPN-UML have notified the Secretary at the Province 1 Assembly Secretariat that they will not be moving forward with the no-confidence motion.

The lawmakers have cited the changed political context, where NCP (NCP) has been dissolved and the UML and Maoist Center have re-emerged, to pull out of the motion.

With this, the government of CM Rai will remain intact in the province.

Of the total 93 lawmakers in the PA, 51 belong to the UML.
