Nepal-Khanal faction calls on party rank and file to oppose PM Oli

KATHMANDU: UML leaders aligning with senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal have accused Prime Minister KP Oli of imposing tyrannical governance by exploiting and weakening state mechanisms.

The leaders have also urged all party rank and file to create a united front against PM Oli to retain the existence/identity of the UML and communist movement.

A meeting of Standing Committee members of Nepal-Khanal faction held Tuesday afternoon has concluded by issuing a joint statement that criticizes PM Oli’s various actions.

The statement signed by 11 leaders, including Nepal, Jhala Nath Khanal and Bhim Rawal, among others, has accused Oli of continuously working to split communist forces by deploying various means to establish his highhandedness in the party.

The statement chronicles and condemns PM Oli’s actions since the dissolution of the parliament on December 20 to till date. It also states that the unification of UML and Maoist Center into the Nepal Communist Party (NCP) was a result of PM’s secret dealing with Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ at the time.

The leaders have alleged that the PM worked against the party constitution, rules and regulations on several occasions. They have referenced his decisions, from scraping all office-bearers elected from the 9th general convention to the amendment of UML parliamentary party statute inducting 23 Maoist members into the Central Committee to the recent suspension of Nepal and Rawal, that are in direct contravention to the mandate obtained from the 9th general assembly and spirit of communist movement.

They have also decided to continue creating parallel structures in the party from center to ward level. Alleging that PM Oli has showed disregard to the working style in the party, the leaders have called on cadres, activists and well-wishers to join hands and oppose Oli.
