KATHMANDU: The first contingent of the 11th batch of the United Nations Guard, led by Lieutenant Colonel Madhav Thapa, left for Iraq on Wednesday at the request of the United Nations.
According to the Military Public Relations and Directorate, as many as 21 Nepali peacekeepers flew to Iraq via a UN flight.
The team will replace the 10th batch of the current United Nations Guard in Iraq.
The Nepal Army has been making a significant contribution in various UN peacekeeping missions for the establishment of peace in various conflict-affected countries of the world.
In line with the policy of continuing peacekeeping operations even at the risk of Covid-19 infection, the Army has been adopting full security vigilance during the transition.
