Maoist Center’s General Convention: Closed session urges to voice for executive President

KATHMANDU: Panelists in the closed session of ongoing 8th General Convention of the CPN-Maoist Center have urged the party leadership to raise the issue of executive President and fully proportional electoral system again.

Offering their feedback on party Chair Puspa Kamal Dahal Prachanda’s political dossier presented in the gala event of the party on Monday, delegates from various provinces and geographical regions have urged the party leadership to raise the agenda of executive President again.

They also suggested to go for fully proportional representation in the parliament.

Concluding that the directly elected electoral system is costly and has increased corruption, the issue of proportional representation and the executive president being promoted by the Maoists was also raised at the eighth general convention.

The closed session is documenting the deliberations on Chairman Prachanda’s political dossier and leader Dev Gurung’s draft legislation.

The documents were discussed in 25 different groups on Tuesday and are presented in writing on Wednesday.

The team leaders demanded the leadership to play lead to withdraw charges laid against leaders during ‘people’s war’ and not to delay the issue of transitional justice.

They expressed serious concern at the delay in addressing the agenda of employment and financial assistants and identity cards to families of the martyrs of the People’s War, the families of the disappeared, the injured and the disabled.

Similarly, they asked the leadership to consider the fate of former ‘soldiers’ of People’s Liberation Army (PLA) and work for them and utilize them as well.

The general convention, which started last Sunday, will select a 299-member central working committee with 15 office bearers.
